As a professional sign factory, we build the illuminated part of your monument sign to your design: the metal letters and logo panels, each piece with its own light source and circuit, fabricated with LEDs inside for a soft halo, UL Listed and backed by a 3-year warranty. Your local contractor builds the base; we build the sign.
Once you approve the shop drawings, production usually runs about 15 business days, and DHL door-to-door shipping adds roughly a week, so figure about 25 days from sign-off to your entrance.
What are backlit monument signs?
Backlit monument signs are custom illuminated signs for a ground-level entrance, and each separate piece has its own light source and its own circuit, made as a hollow metal sign shell (called a channel in the U.S.), not a solid slab. The face is laser cut, the returns are fabricated to your shape, and the two are laser welded into one hollow piece; low-voltage LEDs sit inside and throw light backward for a soft halo. Lights off, it reads as a crisp metal sign; lights on, the shape is traced in a soft halo. Here is the important part: a monument sign has two parts, the base and the illuminated sign on top, and we build the illuminated part, the letters and logo panels, while your local contractor builds the masonry, stone, or concrete base. We ship the mounting pattern and studs so the panels drop onto the finished base and line up. A monument sign marks the entrance, so it is often the first thing a visitor reads from the road or the driveway. Churches and community buildings, hospital campuses, auto dealerships, and real estate or business parks all use backlit monument signs to be found at the turn-in and to glow after dark. This is ground-level signage that has to read from a moving car. Here are a few typical industries.

What we need for your custom project
- Design file
- A vector file works best. A high-resolution raster or an AI-generated flat image is enough for a quote. Skip software auto-tracing: it loses much of the detail, so send the high-resolution raster as it is.
- Property sign rules
- Entrance signage is often governed by local sign codes, an HOA, or a business-park rule set, so check the size range, any finish or color limits, light color temperature, and the required mounting before design starts. If there are written sign criteria, send them to us, and both the quote and the shop drawings will follow them.
- Sizes
- Stay within the sign size range your property and code allow, then size the letters to the viewing distance: as a rule of thumb, a letter stays readable up to about 120 times its height (a 1-inch letter reads clearly within about 10 feet). A monument sign is read from the road and the driveway, so size the letters up: in a national shopper study, 90.9% agreed that sign letters should be large enough to read from the road (per BrandSpark)3.
- Base
- Tell us about the base your contractor will build: the material (stone, brick, metal, or concrete), the face size, and the orientation. That sets the mounting pattern and how the panels sit, so the finished sign lines up on the base.
- Power
- Tell us the power available on site (AC or DC) and the voltage, and whether a conduit already runs to the base, so we can match the right Mean Well power supply.
- Site conditions
- Tell us about the outdoor site so we build for it. On the weather, four things matter: whether it is a rainy area, whether it hits extreme heat, whether it gets hard winter freezes, and whether it is dusty or sandy; also let us know if the site is coastal or on a salted roadside, which steers the metal to marine-grade 316. On wiring, tell us whether the cabling can route up through the base. And where should the power supply sit, so it stays accessible and sheds heat.

Choosing your model: Luxury or Common
Backlit monument signs come in two models, Luxury and Common. For an exposed, ground-level sign we usually recommend the Common model, which sheds heat, keeps the opal acrylic hidden, and resists warping. See the point-by-point comparison in Compare below.

Installation
- We build the letters and logo panels; your local contractor builds the base and footing. We supply the 1:1 mounting pattern, the stud layout, the wiring diagram, and instructions, so the panels drop onto the finished base and line up.
- Hire a professional installer to set the panels, route the wires up through the base, and place the power supply.
- The Common model must mount off the face for the reflected halo to form; the Luxury model can sit flush or nearly flush.
Power supply
- The power supply sits in the base or a nearby accessible enclosure, in a spot that sheds heat and stays reachable for service.
- For U.S. projects, we plan a 12V DC low-voltage system with a UL Listed Mean Well power supply before production.
Outdoor planning
- 304 stainless steel by default; marine-grade 316 for coastal or salted-roadside sites; large logo panels in aluminum on the Common path to cut weight.
- For wet or irrigated spots we plan waterproof LEDs, drainage holes at the bottom of the metal sign shells, and edge detailing that keeps the halo outline clean.

- Do you build the monument base and foundation too?
- No. We build the illuminated part, the metal letters and logo panels, and your local contractor builds the base and footing in stone, brick, metal, or concrete. We include the mounting pattern, the studs, and the wiring diagram, so the panels drop onto the finished base and line up.
- How do the letters and panels attach to the base?
- They mount to the base face with the studs and pattern we supply, and the Common model stands slightly off the face so the halo can form, with the cabling routed up through the base to the power supply. Your contractor pre-sets the stud holes from our 1:1 template.
- Will a monument sign survive sprinklers, road salt, and weather?
- Yes. Ground level gets 304 stainless steel by default and marine-grade 316 on coastal or salted-roadside sites, with waterproof LEDs, drainage holes at the bottom of the metal sign shells, and edge detailing against light leaks. Tell us if it is rainy, freezing, or coastal, and we build the sealing and drainage around it.
- Letters, a logo panel, or both, and what is a logo panel?
- Either or both. A logo panel is your logo or crest built as one illuminated metal panel, and separate letters are built as individual metal sign shells; both throw a halo and take your brand finish and light color. Large panels run in aluminum on the Common path to cut weight.
